What is Telogen Effluvium and how can I fix it?

Often, Telogen Effluvium occurs after a highly stressful situation — a medical crisis, a divorce, job loss, that kind of thing. People can lose up to 400 hairs a day, which almost certainly contributes to more stress! One of the things to look for if you think you are suffering from Telogen Effluvium is a “bulb” shape at the root of the hair that is falling out. This bulbous root looks different than hair that falls out for other causes. When you are trying to uncover the causes of female hair loss, your first stop should be with your doctor. A comprehensive blood panel, examination and history will help put you on the track to solving your hair loss problem once and for all. In the meantime, the Bernstein Medical Centre has a great page on causes of female hair loss that includes a great deal of diagnostic information, reference charts and more.
