Hair Loss Laser Comb

Can A Gadget Make A Difference? The short answer is yes.

Hair Loss Laser Comb: Answer to your prayers?

Using the hair loss laser comb has made a huge difference in the way that I manage my hair loss. I first saw the HairMax laser comb highlighted as one of the most effective treatments for female hair loss in an episode of the Dr. Oz show.

If it’s good enough for Dr. Oz’s patients, I figured it was good enough for me.

Choosing A Hair Loss Laser Comb

I’d tried just about everything else I could think of at that point, and had actually been debating purchasing the hair loss laser comb for several months. Part of my delay was because of the price — they ran from $400 to $500 — and partly because I thought they were probably more effective for male hair loss.

Fortunately, the price has come down a lot, and you can get a decent model of the HairMax laser comb now for less than $300. I have to say — these products last.  I’ve had mine for almost 7 years. The battery doesn’t last as long as it did originally, but other than that it is in mint condition. I honestly have no complaints and would happily buy it again.

There are of course newer and fancier models now.  When my laser comb finally dies, I have my eye on a new, easier-to-use version, the LaserBand. It’s once again an investment, at almost $800, but considering how long my original laser comb lasted I’m thinking it’s worth the investment.

Dr. Oz helped change my mind about the laser comb just being for men.

Personal experience: the Hair Loss Laser Comb

In the time I’ve used the laser comb, I have to say I have noticed a significant difference. I can’t attribute all the improvement to the laser, but I definitely notice a difference every time I use it.  My hair looks thicker and fuller, and it seems to have less body. It’s almost as if the hairs are somehow “fluffed” — and this extra oomph makes me much less self conscious about my thinning hair. That interpretation of this technology for laser hair loss prevention is entirely subjective, I know. But in terms of quality it as a treatment for female hair loss, I can only say that the amount of hair I’m losing has decreased significantly in the time I’ve been using the HairMax — I’d estimate it’s improved by about 50%. Prior to using the HairMax, I was losing between 90 and 120 strands of hair (yes, I counted!) every time I washed and conditioned my hair. Now the hair loss is down to 40-50 strands each time, a significant improvement.

I notice less hair on my clothes and furniture, as well, which has been a huge relief.

I think the main thing to keep in mind when tackling female hair loss is that you may need more than one approach to fix the problem. A technique like the hair loss laser comb, combined with increasing your iron intake and trying herbs and vitamins like B12 and Vitamin D can give you the best chance of success.

The science behind the hair loss laser comb

The HairMax was originally designed for men, but has recently been authorized as an effective treatment for women. In June 2011, the FDA approved the HairMax Laser Comb to promote hair growth and treat female pattern hair loss.

The FDA approval came after a double-blind clinical trial showed that 100% of trial participants who used the hair loss laser comb experienced regrowth over a six-month period. The regrowth was estimated at an average of 20.5 hairs per square centimetre, a result that is considered to be clinically significant.

Perhaps even more important for women with hair loss is the fact that 70% of HairMax users reported their hair was thicker and fuller.

How does the HairMax work? The laser works to stimulate active and dormant hair follicles.

I purchased the HairMax Pro12, and use it (as directed) three times a week. Results are best if you use it right after shampooing, and before you apply any product to your hair. Each treatment takes 12 minutes, which is a small investment considering the peace of mind the device has given me.

My  HairMax was purchased for $570, including shipping, back in late 2010.  The good news is that my laser comb is still working as well as it was the day that I bought it, so I can attest that these things are built to last.  The prices have fallen considerably in recent years, and you can get some smoking deals on Amazon.

Knowledge is power

Laser hair loss prevention options, including the HairMax laser comb, were also profiled in an episode of The Doctors. The interview really captures the devastating emotions that women with hair loss experience — and it also offers hope for women’s hair loss prevention.

If you want to see the hair loss laser comb in action, this 3-D video should do the job.
